In our cooperages, original casks that matured Cognac over many years are transformed into carefully crafted small-format aging barrels with capacities of 27, 55, and 110 liters. These compact French oak barrels are ideal for the professional aging, finishing, and flavor refinement of whisky, rum, brandy, gin, beer, or other spirits.

The long-term maturation with Cognac imparts an elegant, finely structured, and complex aroma profile to the wood. Typical notes include ripe fruits, light grapes, floral nuances, vanilla, delicate spice, and subtle oak. Compared to other cask types, Cognac barrels offer a particularly balanced, smooth, and harmonious influence, adding elegance, depth, and a silky texture to the aging spirit or beverage.

FROM COGNAC CASK TO COMPACT AGING BARREL
For the reconstruction process, original French oak Cognac casks are professionally dismantled. The staves are precisely shortened, newly fitted, and then reassembled using traditional cooperage techniques to create smaller aging barrels.

The reduced volume creates a highly active barrel: the increased ratio of wood surface to liquid ensures faster and more intensive flavor interaction. This makes these small-format barrels ideal for finishing projects, experimental batches, or targeted maturation concepts with high sensory precision.

ARTISAN RECONDITIONING & MAXIMUM QUALITY
Our experienced coopers refurbish each reconstructed barrel with the utmost care. The staves are inspected and reworked if necessary, the exterior surfaces are finely sanded, and the barrel hoops are adjusted or renewed. Particular attention is paid to tightness, wood structure, and sensory quality.

The result is technically flawless, highly aromatic French oak barrels that preserve the character of the original Cognac while offering optimal conditions for refilling and maturation.

Rebuilt Cognac casks made from French oak offer an exceptionally elegant alternative to conventional small-format barrels. The sizes 27, 55, and 110 liters allow precise flavor control and are ideal for producers seeking to integrate delicate fruit, floral notes, and a harmonious oak structure into their maturation projects.

French oak in a compact format – reconstructed barrels with elegant fruit, refined spice, and versatile applications in distilling and brewing.

FLAVOURS:

DOWNLOAD: Guidelines for Used Barrels

NOTE: The sale of our products is exclusively to businesses or commercial customers as defined in §14 of the German Civil Code (BGB).
