ITALIAN ELEGANCE IN COMPACT FORMAT
Our reconstructed barrels made from grappa casks combine traditional cooperage craftsmanship with the reuse of highly characterful and aromatic oak wood. In our cooperages, original oak barrels that previously held grappa are transformed into carefully crafted small-format aging barrels with capacities of 27, 55, and 110 liters. These compact oak barrels are ideal for the professional aging, finishing, and flavor refinement of whisky, rum, brandy, gin, fruit spirits, beer, or cider.
Maturation with grappa – a traditional Italian pomace spirit – imparts a clear, elegant, and precise aroma profile to the wood. Typical notes include fresh and dried grapes, delicate herbal nuances, subtle fruit sweetness, and light dry spice. This unique combination gives the rebuilt barrels a refined, structured, and highly controllable flavor profile, making them ideal for precise maturation concepts.
FROM GRAPPA CASK TO COMPACT AGING BARREL
For the reconstruction process, original grappa casks are professionally dismantled. The staves are precisely shortened, newly fitted, and then reassembled using traditional cooperage techniques to create smaller aging barrels.
The reduced volume creates a highly active barrel: the increased ratio of wood surface to liquid ensures faster and more intense flavor interaction. This makes these small-format barrels particularly suitable for finishing projects, experimental batches, or targeted maturation concepts with high sensory control.
ARTISAN RECONDITIONING & MAXIMUM QUALITY
Our experienced coopers refurbish each reconstructed barrel with the utmost care. The staves are inspected and reworked if necessary, the exterior surfaces are finely sanded, and the barrel hoops are adjusted or renewed. Special attention is given to tightness, wood quality, and sensory performance.
The result is technically flawless, highly aromatic oak barrels that preserve the character of the original grappa while offering optimal conditions for refilling and maturation.
Rebuilt grappa casks offer an elegant and precise alternative to conventional small-format barrels. The sizes 27, 55, and 110 liters allow targeted flavor control and are ideal for producers seeking to integrate fresh grape notes, delicate herbal aromas, and a clean, structured cask influence into their maturation projects.
Oak barrels in a compact format – reconstructed barrels with clean fruit, refined spice, and versatile applications in distilling and brewing.
