The 400-liter Tonneaux from Giraud-Galiana, crafted from high-quality Carpathian oak, combine traditional craftsmanship with state-of-the-art cooperage technology. This generous barrel volume allows for particularly gentle and even wine maturation, making it ideal for winemakers who seek to impart a subtle oak influence without overpowering the fruit aromas. As one of France’s most exclusive cooperages, Giraud-Galiana sets new standards in premium wine aging.
The fine-grained structure of Carpathian oak enables very smooth micro-oxidation, allowing wines to mature more slowly and harmoniously. Compared to smaller barriques, the larger barrel volume results in reduced oak extraction, enhancing the wine’s finesse, elegance, and aromatic complexity. This harmonious balance between oxygen exchange and oak integration imparts wines with complex yet delicate aromas.
Thanks to its larger volume, the impact of oak on the wine is more refined. While classic barriques often leave a more pronounced oak imprint, the 400L Tonneaux allow for a slower, more nuanced flavor development. The natural aromatic profile of Carpathian oak enhances delicate notes of vanilla, soft spices, and elegant toasty aromas, which blend seamlessly with the wine’s fruit characteristics.
Giraud-Galiana is known for precision and superior quality. The staves are sourced from carefully selected oak trees in the oldest and most valuable forests of Eastern Europe. A natural drying period of 24 to 36 months optimizes the physical and chemical properties of the wood, ensuring gentle tannin extraction and a harmonious integration of oak elements into the wine’s structure.
The 400L Tonneaux made from Carpathian oak offer even greater control over wine maturation. The larger volume allows for a more precise oxygen exchange, leading to longer yet softer aging. The result: unparalleled elegance, depth, and aromatic complexity, making these barrels ideal for aging both white and red wines.
