CHARACTERISTICS OF AMERICAN WHITE OAK
American white oak (Quercus alba) is widespread throughout the eastern regions of North America and is known for its medium to large pore structure, high tannin content, and rich vanillin levels. This makes it highly sought after in the whisky industry, as well as for many other spirits and wines. The high vanillin content provides a pleasant sweetness and complexity, while the dense wood structure allows for controlled oxidation, contributing to a smooth and harmonious maturation process.
