Chestnut wood distillation barrels offer an elegant and versatile way to mature spirits with finesse and balance. Chestnut is a classic yet often underestimated barrel wood, valued for its medium-weight structure and lively, fine-grained texture. Our new chestnut barrels in sizes of 28 liters, 40 liters, 56 liters, and 112 liters are especially well suited for smaller volumes and allow precise control over the maturation process.
During aging in a chestnut barrel, the distillate develops a mild, gently sweet aromatic profile with subtle wood and spice notes. The flavor expression remains open and clear, without dominant tannins, making chestnut wood particularly suitable for fruit brandies, premium fruit spirits, liqueurs, gin, and other distilled spirits. Especially in small barrel sizes, chestnut reveals its strengths by adding structure, depth, and freshness to the spirit without masking its varietal character.
For our new chestnut wood distillation barrels, we use sustainably grown sweet chestnut sourced from selected regions in Hungary and Slovenia. The origin of the wood and the management of the growing areas are regularly monitored to ensure consistently high material quality. Each barrel is handcrafted by experienced international master coopers with great attention to detail and individually tailored to the technical requirements of spirit maturation. After production, every barrel undergoes a comprehensive quality inspection covering workmanship, tightness, and wood quality.
