These exceptional 500L red wine barrels originate from Burgundy, France, and were previously used for Pinot Noir. Approximately four years old and featuring an unusually large 500L capacity, they are a genuine rarity on the market for premium used wine barrels.
Pinot Noir is one of Burgundy's most characteristic grape varieties, renowned for its elegance, finesse, and complex aromatic profile. The previous fill may leave subtle notes of red berries, cherry, and darker fruits, complemented by floral, spicy, and slightly earthy nuances.
These rare barrels offer wineries, distilleries, breweries, and cider producers exceptional opportunities for refilling, maturation, barrel aging, and finishing premium wines, spirits, beers, ciders, and other beverages.
BURGUNDY PINOT NOIR – ELEGANCE RATHER THAN DOMINANCE
A barrel's previous fill can play an important role in the aromatic development of the next product matured inside it. Burgundy Pinot Noir barrels are particularly interesting because the grape variety is associated less with heavy, dominant fruit character and more with elegance, finesse, and aromatic complexity.
Depending on the individual history of each barrel, nuances of cherry, raspberry, strawberry, and darker forest berries may be present. These can be complemented by floral and spicy notes, subtle earthy characteristics, and the oak profile that has become harmoniously integrated over several years of wine maturation.
This combination makes these barrels particularly attractive to producers looking for an elegant, complex aroma profile without an excessively dominant oak influence.
500L – SLOWER, MORE ELEGANT MATURATION
With a capacity of 500 litres, these Pinot Noir barrels provide significantly different maturation conditions compared with traditional 228L Burgundy pièces. The lower ratio of wood surface area to liquid volume results in slower and more restrained interaction between the oak and the product.
This can be particularly beneficial for longer aging, maturation, and finishing projects. The existing character of the Pinot Noir barrel can integrate gradually into the product while the direct influence of the oak remains comparatively subtle.
For wineries, the larger format offers interesting opportunities for elegant wine maturation with a more restrained oak influence. Distilleries and breweries can likewise benefit from the slower, more controlled development offered by a 500L oak barrel during sophisticated maturation and finishing projects.
PROFESSIONALLY CLEANED AND PREPARED FOR REFILLING
Before delivery, each barrel is professionally high-pressure cleaned to remove deposits and residues and carefully prepare it for its next fill.
Following cleaning, the barrels undergo an infrared treatment for preservation and hygienic preparation. This process ensures that the used Pinot Noir barrels are professionally prepared for transport and subsequent refilling.
Our approach goes beyond simply reselling used barrels. Before delivery, each barrel is carefully inspected and professionally prepared for its next use in wineries, distilleries, breweries, cideries, and other professional beverage production facilities.
FOR WINERIES, DISTILLERIES, BREWERIES & CIDER PRODUCERS
The combination of a Pinot Noir previous fill, Burgundy origin, and rare 500L format creates numerous possibilities for individual aging, maturation, and finishing projects.
Wineries can use these barrels for the maturation of premium red wines, individual cuvées, and distinctive wine projects. Their larger capacity and age of approximately four years make them particularly interesting for winemakers seeking a more subtle oak influence and slower, more controlled development.
For whisky, Pinot Noir barrels can contribute additional red fruit character, elegance, and subtle spice to a finishing project. Rum, brandy, and other spirits may benefit from the combination of fruit, wine character, and well-integrated oak developed during the barrel's previous use.
For breweries, these barrels offer exciting opportunities for barrel aging and specialty releases, including complex ales, sour beers, and other barrel-aged beers. They can also be used for selected cider and other fermentation and maturation projects.
A RARE FIND FROM BURGUNDY
Used Pinot Noir barrels from Burgundy are already highly sought after due to their prestigious origin and distinctive previous fill. In the 500L format, however, these barrels are considerably more difficult to source than traditional 228L Burgundy barrels.
The combination of a renowned French wine region, Pinot Noir previous fill, approximately four years of age, and an exceptional 500L capacity makes these barrels a genuine rarity.
We receive them only at irregular intervals and in limited quantities. Continuous availability therefore cannot be guaranteed.
AVAILABILITY ON REQUEST
These 500L Burgundy Pinot Noir barrels are available strictly subject to current stock. Due to their rarity, individual batches may sell out quickly, and future availability cannot always be predicted in advance.
For this reason, we recommend enquiring early. We will be pleased to provide information about current quantities and prepare an individual quotation for your requirements.
